Pride events with the Archives!
It’s June, and all kinds of Pride Celebrations are happening! Here is a sampling of events we are joining, associated with, or just simply love. Join for any or all!
June 4: NewFest shows “Jewelle, a Just Vision.” And the Lesbian Herstory Archives is co-presenting it!
This personal and moving documentary illuminates the decades-spanning work of author & activist Jewelle Gomez and her contributions to LGBTQ+ women of color communities. Q and A with filmmaker Madeleine Lim afterwards. When you book your ticket (hurry!) use code LHA23 for a $5 discount.
The weekend of June 2-4 will also include a play by the Murmuration Theatre Company at the 3 Dollar Bill theater.
They are performing Stop Kiss by Diana Son, a one-act play which is both a queer love story and a story about the devastating impact of anti-LGBT hate crime (in this instance, set outside Henrietta Hudson). The theater is presenting this show as a fundraiser for the Lesbian Herstory Archives and the Audre Lorde Project! We are very appreciative and hope that many of you get to see this play!
June 10 is Brooklyn Pride, and just like in previous years we will be part of the Brooklyn Pride Parade.
Check our website or Instagram for information where in the line up you can find us, and come march with us! The parade starts at 7:30 at Lincoln Place and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn, and ends at 9th street.
On June 28: Elvis Bakaitis and Flavia Rando will present about the Archives at the Whitney Museum Members Night.
Stay tuned for more info about this event.
Friday June 30: Rooftop Happy Hour and Read with the Lesbian Herstory Archives at the NYPL from 5:30- 7:30pm.
Deb Edel, co-founder of Lesbian Herstory Archives, Olivia Newsome, archivist and lesbrarian, Fabliha Anbar, artist and writer, and Amy Beth, co-host and archivette at Lesbian Herstory Archives will read from a book or collection from the Archives. The event is free but but registration is required and will open at June 18th.
We will be happy to see you at any or all of these events. For all updates, check our Instagram feed or the calendar on our website.
